Across industry segments, manufacturing companies are facing challenges in terms of increasing the agility, quality and sustainability of production processes while at the same time reducing production time and total cost is a must. Approaches like Industry 4.0 and Smart Factories are driven by data and technological advances and promise solutions to these challenges. However, the nature of these solutions will induce fundamental changes to the underlying business processes. For instance, customers and business partners will be connected and integrated more tightly as data value chains emerge.
The SMART Production i-Praxis track at i-KNOW 2014 investigates the nature and the potential impact of technology and data driven concepts like Industry 4.0 and Smart Factories for the manufacturing industry. Topics will include reuse of production data for quality management and process optimization, as well as generation of actionable knowledge from fragmentary historical documentation.
